Dear CALBO Members,  

As you know, this Wednesday, March 16, the California Building Standards Commission is expected to reverse its prior decision to recommend the adoption of the NFPA 5000 building code.  CALBO has been working for nearly 2 years to reverse this decision and to move forward with the International Building Code (IBC).  CALBO is also supportive of the International Fire Code (IFC) and the International Residential Code (IRC) in addition to the IBC.  This Wednesday will be history in the making for California ’s building officials and we need you there !

Please, come to Sacramento this Wednesday in support of the IBC, IRC and IFC.  CALBO needs your presence to show our strong support for overturning the 2003 decision of the CBSC.  You may choose to testify before the commission, or simply stand in support to be counted as a “me too!”   

The meeting will take place at the Secretary of State’s Auditorium, located at the corner of 11^th & “O” Street.  Ample parking is available in surrounding garages and at street meters.  The meeting will begin at 10:00am .  As with the past meetings of the Coordinating Council, signing in can take some time so please plan to arrive early.  

CALBO leadership has devised a few key statements to make on behalf of the membership at Wednesday’s meeting.  These points are in-line with the positions presented at the ABM in support of the IBC, IRC and IFC.  In order to speak with a united voice, please allow the formal testimonies to be made by CALBO representatives before approaching the microphone.  Following CALBO’s formal efforts, any additional comments along the same lines or the infamous “me too” positions would be greatly appreciated.  Also, you do not necessarily need to testify or approach the microphone to participate tomorrow.  There will be opportunities to just stand from your seat among others in support of the CALBO position.  

CALBO is hosting a luncheon at Vallejo ’s Mexican restaurant, located directly across the street from the Secretary of State’s building on 11^th Street .  This luncheon is for all CALBO members and will be an opportunity for you to interact with ICC leadership and other building industry stakeholders.  The commission usually adjourns for lunch around 12:00 , so please cross the street and join your fellow CALBO members for lunch.
